Win Freebies with the Log Cabin Memory Project

By admin | 1 Comments

The Nae Limits Log Cabin – one of Scotland’s most unique accommodations – is thrilled to launch an innovative genealogy project enabling visitors to swap memories for rewards. Since first opening in 1967, the Log Cabin has assumed many guises and since taking it over 6 months ago we have sought to piece together the Log Cabin’s history by inviting past guests to trade-in their stories.

Proprietors Kate and John Mason-Strang established ‘The Memory Project 2012’ after discovering a trove of old images when they took over the building. When visitors spanning 45 years started to email with nostalgic tales, they began thinking of a way to compile the recollections.

If you (or someone you know) has stayed in The Log Cabin before, we want your memories! In exchange we’re offering a voucher entitling you to free coffee at the Log Cabin. All stories collected will chronologically ordered in an online timeline, allowing others to post their memories.

New visitors will be able to update the timeline and the proprietors plan to publish a memory book when enough information has been gathered.

When we took over, we were amazed by the amount of people calling or emailing to tell us about the times they had had here in the past,” said Kate Mason-Strang.

We also found a lot of really interesting old photographs of family weddings, parties and music events and we started thinking it would be good to draw all of this together somehow and find out who these people were.

That is why we came up with the idea of the project. People seem more comfortable emailing memories of happy times rather than contributing to a more formal historical research project. We have received a lot of responses already by email and we will start to get these up on our website when the timeline begins to emerge.”

Co-Proprietor John Mason-Strang added: “I think it is important not to lose these snippets of life in the area and we liked the idea of having a kind of family tree where people could etch their own story; their own part in the timeline.

The building started out as the Edelweiss Hotel, so some people will remember it as that. Others will remember it as the Log Cabin Hotel. Now it is entering a new chapter once again.

Since taking over at the cabin, the couple, founders of the award-winning adventure sport company, Nae Limits, have re-branded the accommodation the Nae Limits Log Cabin. Residents and non-residents are welcome and those staying can choose bespoke activities including rafting, canyoning and bungee jumping.

Former residents or visitors who wish to take part in ‘The Memory Project 2012’ should send their memories and pictures to info@thelogcabinhotel.co.uk. Project administrators will then issue an e-voucher for use at the Cabin.

One person interested in the project’s development is local man, James Rattray. He built the chalet-style cabin in its original form 45 years ago and admits it has many tales to tell.

It has taken many different directions in its history. When it was built, people brought different ideas but no one ever thought it would develop as far as it did.

In the sixties and seventies it was jam packed and people came from all over Scotland. At one stage, there was live music every other evening.

The place had a real buzz and it is nice to see the new proprietors bringing it back to what it used to be.

Log Cabin Bistro Special Offer

By admin | No Comments

Nae Limits Log Cabin are offering Highland Perthshire residents and Perthshire Online members a special deal for the months of April and May.

Kate and John Mason-Strang – founders of the  ground-breaking Highland Fling Bungee at Killiecrankie last May, along with fellow Director, Murray Trail – recently secured the lease of one of Scotland’s most unique buildings and have offered bungee and activity breaks at the 13-bedroom family accommodation in the mountains.

As part of an exciting re-brand, the Log Cabin has now opened a new bistro where diners can enjoy locally sourced food looking out over the breathtaking hills.

A new chef and team are on board to welcome guests for coffee, light lunches and evening meals from April 1st 2012.

For all Highland Perthshire residents and Perthshire Online members, the team are offering a complimentary glass of house wine with any two course meal or 15 per cent off the bill for groups of six or more.

Kate Mason-Strang said: “We would be delighted to welcome fellow Perthshire Online members to the cabin. All the food is home cooked and sourced from around the area and we think guests will enjoy the easy ambience and the panorama. The bistro is basically a window into the glens.

To activate the offer, Highland Perthshire residents or Perthshire Online members should simply state their address or the name of their organisation upon arrival.

To book, or to discuss rooms, activity or bungee breaks, call 01250 881 221.

Already nearly at the end of January, we are delighted with the bookings that have come in.  Although there is little snow, our lovely customers seem happy to take on a new challenge with other sports available such as rafting or bungee.  Never a dull moment !

We just got out first new comment since the hotel has been under new management. They described the main bar area as something out of a 70′s Cinzano advert and we are well chuffed. Thanks again! It is always good to get feedback and even better when we hear that the hardwork is paying off.

The Nae Limits team moved into the Log Cabin yesterday. We are soo excited! Even those that have not been directly involved with the hotel, have not bee able to resist popping up to have a look. Everyne can see the huge potential this stunning we hotel has and the masses of character that it already has.

We have spent weeks chatting about what we would like to do , how we will go about it and ultimately how we plan to make this a mecca for adventure enthusiasts from all over.

We are off to do some shopping already. We need to pick up a few things to make the hotel, erm fit more with our culture ;-)

Check back to see what we have bought!
